About ICSE Class 10 Physics textbook (Concise/Selina)
The ICSE Class 10 Physics curriculum is organized into twelve chapters, each focusing on specific areas of study. The course begins with mechanics, starting with the chapter on Force, which introduces concepts like turning forces, equilibrium, and the center of gravity. This is followed by Work, Energy and Power, which discusses their interrelation, various forms of energy, and the principle of conservation. The third chapter on Machines explains the functions of levers, pulleys, and other simple devices.
The subject then moves to optics and waves. Refraction of Light at Plane Surfaces explains how light bends, leading to concepts like total internal reflection. Refraction through a Lens details the properties of convex and concave lenses and image formation using ray diagrams. The chapter on Spectrum explains the dispersion of light and the electromagnetic spectrum. The Sound chapter then examines echoes, natural and forced vibrations, resonance, and the characteristics of sound.
The curriculum then covers electricity and heat. Current Electricity introduces Ohm’s law and resistance. Household Circuits applies these ideas to domestic wiring and safety features. Electro-magnetism deals with the magnetic effects of current, motors, generators, and transformers. The chapter on Calorimetry focuses on heat measurement, specific heat capacity, and latent heat. The syllabus concludes with Radioactivity, providing an introduction to atomic structure, nuclear changes, fission, and fusion.
