About BSEM/BoSEM Class 9
The Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) is the state education board responsible for conducting Class 9 examinations in the state of Manipur, India.
The BSEM conducts annual examinations for students in Class 9 each year. All students enrolled in Class 9 in BSEM-affiliated schools are eligible to appear for these exams. The subjects examined include Manipuri, English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. Additionally, students also have to take an elective language paper such as Hindi, Bengali, Alternative English, etc. based on the medium of instruction at their respective schools.
The examination pattern comprises written papers for each subject, which are held for a duration of 2–3 hours each. The question paper is set by subject experts at the state level and distributed uniformly to exam centers across Manipur. For subjects like Mathematics, Science and Social Science, the paper comprises multiple choice questions (MCQs), very short answer questions, short answer questions, and long/descriptive type questions to test students’ conceptual understanding and application abilities.
Students have to secure a minimum of 33 percent overall and in individual subjects to be declared ‘pass’. Those unable to meet these criteria are offered a second chance through compartmental exams.
The BSEM Class 9 annual exams are a crucial milestone for students as they prepare them for the board-conducted Class 10 exams, which have to be cleared to progress further. A good performance also enables students to choose preferred streams and subjects for their higher secondary education.
