17. a. An object 4 cm in size is placed at a distance of 25 cm in front of a concave mirror with a focal length of 15 cm. At what distance from the mirror should a screen be placed in order to obtain a sharp image? Find the size of the image. (3)

b. A concave lens has a focal length of 15cm. At what distance should the object be placed from the lens so that it forms an image 10cm from the lens? Also, find the magnification produced by the lens.

3. Rear view mirror of vehicles.

19. a. An electric iron consumes energy at a rate of 840 W when heating is at its maximum rate and 360 W when the heating is at its minimum. The voltage is 220V. What are the current and the resistance in each case? (3)

b. Two lamps, one rated at 100W at 220V, and the other at 60W at 220V, are connected in parallel to the electric mains supply. What current is drawn from the line if the supply voltage is 220V?

20. What are the factors on which the resistance of a conductor depends? (3×1=3)

21. Write any three advantages and disadvantages of solar cell panels. (1 12+112=3)

22. a. Explain the steps involved in the extraction of metals from their ores. (5×1= 5)

(i) Explain any two properties of ionic compounds.
(ii) List one metal found in a free state in the earth’s crust and mention where it is located in the activity series.
(iii) Metals towards the top of the activity series cannot be obtained from their compounds by reducing with carbon. Why? (2+1+2=5)

23. a. Explain the versatile nature of carbon. Differentiate between saturated and unsaturated carbon compounds. (3+2=5)
